Resilient and Inclusive Shoreline Communities (RISE)

Resilient and Inclusive Shoreline Communities (RISE)

Resilient and Inclusive Shoreline Communities (RISE) is an initiative designed to strengthen climate resilience and improve livelihoods of low-income shoreline households and communities. The program addresses the increasing risks posed by climate change, including flooding, salinity intrusion, potable water scarcity, and storm surges, which threaten both health and livelihoods.

The initiative focuses on strengthening inclusive and resilient water systems to improve access to safe water and reduce everyday environmental risks. It also supports household and community-level adaptation investments through affordable microfinance solutions to safeguard communities from climate exposure, loss of assets and adverse health impacts.

By combining prediction, preparedness and protection thematic streams, this initiative empowers communities to adapt, recover and build long-term resilience in highly vulnerable and climate-disadvantaged landscapes. Implementation of the initiative has started in the Sundarbans. It is designed to be replicable across other coastal regions over the next 5 years, extending its impact throughout vulnerable shoreline communities across India.
